Arden Courts Memory Care Community, located on Braddock Road in Annandale caters to the special needs of individuals with memory loss. Staffed by specially trained caregivers, Arden Courts cares for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Each Arden Courts features friendly common spaces, inviting kitchen and family rooms and walking paths within enclosed courtyards, all designed for the safety and comfort of our residents.

Beyond the layout of Arden Courts, we focus on maximizing the capabilities of our residents and fostering maximum independence through engaging programming, and professional assistance available 24-hours a day.

While most people understand the term Alzheimer’s disease, there are actually more than 100 types of dementia.  At Arden Courts we understand the different disease processes.   Our caregivers undergo training designed specifically for caring for patients with dementia, such as:

A Day at Arden Courts

To give you a better idea of how your loved one may spend their time at Arden Courts, below is an example of what a typical day may look like in our community.

Group activities and structured programs are available seven-days-a-week.  Daily routines include personal hygiene, making the bed, light housekeeping, setting the table, preparing for meals, reading, watching television, getting the mail and folding laundry.

Design & Layout

At Arden Courts, we help people enjoy residential living, while receiving the professional and personalized assistance they need, 24-hours a day. The homelike setting allows for freedom to safely and securely move about, indoors and out. Each house offers a living room, dining room, pantry and laundry room, and the common areas include program and craft rooms, indoor walking path, outdoor courtyards with expansive walking paths, health center and a beauty/barber shop.

Customized Services and Care

We recognize that residents have their own individual routines and interests, capabilities and needs. We set out to accommodate their individuality beginning with an assessment by one of our professional staff members. Working with you, we develop an individualized service plan that is regularly adjusted to meet any changes in your loved one’s routine or condition. These services include:

Health Services

  • Supervision by staff specially trained in Alzheimer’s and dementia care
  • Professional nurses available 24-hours a day
  • Hourly safety check
  • Monitoring--blood pressure, vital signs, weight, etc.
  • Responding to and treating health problems
  • Assisting with medications
  • Assistance in arranging medical care, including physical rehabilitation services available

Behavioral, Recreational and Social Services

  • Orientation
  • Communication
  • Socialization and programming
  • Managing challenging behaviors
  • Advice, reassurance and support

Personal Care Services

  • Personal hygiene

  • Dressing and undressing
  • Mobility – help with walking, transferring from bed

  • Special preparation and presentation of food to meet the unique needs and varied abilities of our residents and respect cultural and religious choices

First, we will watch the PBS Movie Screening of "Alzheimer’s: Every Minute Counts" which weaves together the sobering statistics about Alzheimer’s; expert commentary describing the societal consequences if we don’t have a medical breakthrough; and compelling stories filmed around the country in places where Alzheimer’s is growing rapidly – places where we see previews of the future happening today.

After the screening, local experts will answer questions and help caregivers navigate the difficult journey of Alzheimer’s and related dementias.

Kindly advise in advance if you will need accessible seating, so proper accommodations can be made.

Author, Untangling Dementia: A Guide to Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias

Caregivers often deal with combative, aggressive and agitated behaviors from those who suffer from
dementia. During this presentation, Tam will help audience members understand how dementia brain
damage can result in negative verbal and physical behaviors. She also will introduce them to a behavioral charting system and teach them how to adapt their response to negative behaviors for the best possible outcome.
